Monday July 6th 2009 Lynn's Big Adventure The grand finale

I would not say that Lynn was nervous before her Triathlon, but our local Waitrose store ran out of toilet paper, or as she put it she was not nervous she was terrified.

Much to my surprise she was more worried about the swim than the bike, this was after worrying about what to wear and would the weather be fine. As it turned out warm and sunny (I told her it would be) and she looked great in her new Tri-suit, all was well on this front. Her main worry regarding the swim was that the pool would not have proper lane ropes (anti-wave version) making the swim choppy, she was also convinced she had put down too fast a time for the swim (along with every other first-timer there). In the end there were anti-wave lane ropes and she was about mid-pack swim-time wise, unfortunately her time chip came loose and she had to re-fit it when she came out the pool which did give her a slower time, but overall she swam what she said she would.

She was also worried about getting cold on the bike (Lynn can feel cold in Florida) but again she was fine and she also cycled faster than she thought she would. I have yet to speak with anyone who did not find the run tough so it is no surprise that Lynn also found it hard, but she still managed to run her predicted time more or less. Her overall time was quicker than she thought she would achieve, I had told her that a sprint triathlon would be easier than a half marathon, she disagrees but as I pointed out to her, she trains for a half, swimming and cycling once a week on top of her running does not constitute triathlon training.

Overall I thought she did very well and I am very proud of her, now where?s that entry form for her next tri.
